Custom built to Captain Nathaniel Herreshoff’s original 1914 offsets, using identical materials and production practices. Artisan Boatworks Wooden Herreshoff 12 ½ Replicas are accepted by the H-Class Association and are considered by many to be “the best all-around sailboat of their size ever designed.”

Artisan Boatworks of Maine USA have revived the 12 1/2 and they now build new boats of this design. They use the same offset measurements from the original design and provide a faithful recreation following the same build procedures and a fine eye for detail. Every one of Artisan Boats are built to the most exacting standards, to provide a uniquelly precious creation.

The 12 1/2 is a very usable design. It embodies a roomy and comfortable cockpit to suit plenty of friends and family. It is boat you sit in rather than on. It has a long deep keel which gives it a safe, and very sea kindly stability and an easy to manage rig. This makes it originally popular among young enthusiasts as a safe coastal boat that could go anywhere. Due to its many details, quality of materials used and very high quality of craftsmanship used these boats are both highly prized and will reward the owner by being long lived.
